Abstract

This paper aims to explain LAPAN's formative analysis for space education programs, using situational analysis, organizational analysis, and public analysis. Those analysis show that LAPAN is the only governmental organization that handles research and development concerning space science. Therefore, LAPAN possesses the credibility in managing space education programs. For Indonesia, said programs are necessary as space technology holds importance in human lives. Nonetheless, Indonesia is still lacking the resources needed to develop the technology. It is unfortunate as interest in space is the one of the keys in learning science. With the educational programs, LAPAN aims to raise the awareness and interest of youth and future stakeholders in space science and technology. The programs also act as a communication strategy that can raise and maintain interest and commitment toward space technology. In order to develop them, Indonesia requires both the human resource and public support. It also serves as a campaign to raise the awareness of the importance of space technology, as well as promoting LAPAN's image for the public.
